Our team focus on big ticket company side financial and operational restructuring assignments in addition to Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) /CEO/ CFO appointments and, within the last few years, we have delivered on some of Europe’s largest restructuring cases such as Abengoa, Heijmans, Bouwfonds, Intertoys, Toys R Us, Nyrstar, Seadrill, A&M advise on every aspect of the restructuring process – from the business strategy to cash conservation/liquidity management, to business plan development and implementation.

The opportunity

This is a great opportunity for professionals at Associate / Senior Associate level to join Alvarez & Marsal’s Operational Restructuring & Turnaround team in Milan and interested in putting their outstanding financial background and problem solving skills into practice becoming an integral part of our ‘hands-on’ team.

  • As an Associate or as a Senior Associate you will be working closely with Directors, Senior Directors and Managing Directors and you will have direct exposure to the senior members of the client
  • As part of a highly skilled team, you will have the opportunity to work on multiple and challenging engagements across operational restructuring & turnaround
  • You will be given the opportunity to use the commercial aspects of your financial analysis skills while performing company-side advisory projects, , short term cash flow, insolvency and contingency planning assignment
  • Examples of projects may include preparation and challenge of business plans models, short term cash flow forecasting models, Interim CFO support, PMO and implementation of performance improvement initiatives and operational due diligence
  • You will gain broad industry exposure and benefit from established formal training in addition to ‘on the job’ learning and development. You will be encouraged to internally and externally network, both with our other service lines and with the wider business community

Successful candidates will gain an exceptional range of experience, working on assignments across the restructuring spectrum. In addition, you will also have the opportunity to be involved in business development activities including, identifying potential clients who may need support, the creation of client pitches and proposals to win new mandates. In addition to the above, successful candidates will also benefit from our flexible culture and hybrid working policy.

The person

  • Ideally have a high grade of bachelor’s degree from an accredited top-tier university in accounting, business economics, management engineering or a similar discipline;
  • Prior experience in Consulting or within the Restructuring team of a Big 4 or other large national practice or regional professional services firm
  • Excellent analytical and financial modelling skills
  • Fact-based and analytical approach, solution-focused, action-oriented;
  • Demonstrate the desire to build on existing skill sets and develop additional knowledge of all restructuring offerings
  • Evident project experience in some / all of the following: company-side advisory projects, short term cash flow, insolvency and contingency planning
  • Fluency in Italian and English (both written & spoken) (additional European languages are also desirable)
