Our team focus on big ticket company side financial and operational restructuring assignments in addition to Chief Restructuring Officer (CRO) /CEO/ CFO appointments and, within the last few years, we have delivered on some of Europe’s largest restructuring cases such as Abengoa, Heijmans, Bouwfonds, Intertoys, Toys R Us, Nyrstar, Seadrill, Macintosh, and Continental Foods in addition to working for leading Private Equity companies.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Alvarez & Marsal’s established Restructuring & Turnaround business as a Senior Associate. A&M advise on every aspect of the restructuring process – from the strategy, to cash conservation/liquidity management, to business plan development and implementation – providing you with a wide range of experiences and projects.

You will have the opportunity to work across all phases and aspects of operational restructuring and turnaround initiatives. You will stabilise core operations by formulating and managing turnaround plans and negotiating with senior management and other key stakeholders. Working day-to-day alongside our clients, you will develop an in-depth understanding of their processes, financial position and key operational performance drivers. This understanding is needed in order to create and implement successful restructuring and turnaround initiatives.

Main responsibilities:

  • Quickly understand a client’s rapidly changing situation to enable innovative solutions/options for distressed businesses and their stakeholders
  • Company side Restructuring including building 13-week cash flow forecasts
  • Liquidity management, including understanding the impact of risk, P&L and asset efficiency (working capital) & performance improvement processes
  • Financial modelling including assessing long-term company viability, as well as understanding and applying valuation methods in a restructuring context

  • Balance Sheet Restructuring
  • Asset Sales
  • Cash & liquidity management and forecasting
  • Cross-border wind-downs
  • Preparation and validation of business plans for company management teams
  • Independent business reviews
  • Short term cash flow forecasting frameworks
  • Stakeholder reporting on PMO cost saving initiatives

Requirements:

  • Training at a Big 4 firm ideally with experience within the Restructuring or Deals team
  • A highly numerate skill set that can include a recognised accountancy qualification (RA) or possess a robust understanding of financial and analytical accounting (ratio analysis)
  • Experience in building integrated financial models and have strong Excel/PowerPoint skills
  • A consulting toolkit including how to frame a business issue, judiciously find and use internal and external data to test hypotheses and draw conclusions, structure and write PowerPoint presentations and reports
  • A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university
  • Fluency in Dutch is ideal (other European languages are highly desirable)
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Objective, fact-based approach to problem solving
