Job Description

Since 2003, Alvarez & Marsal Public Sector Services (PSS) has helped government, education, and non-profit clients identify new ways to overcome challenges and implement sustainable change — pioneering a progressive, pragmatic, and forward-looking approach based on our experience applying operational and financial improvement principles in the private sector to address the unique challenges facing public sector organizations. Working directly with management, PSS helps stabilize financial and operational performance by developing and implementing comprehensive profitability, operational, and organizational plans.

Our Public Sector professionals:

  • Stabilize core operations
  • Develop business plans
  • Develop and review financial projections and budgets
  • Develop and review cost reduction and revenue enhancement initiatives
  • Develop and implement cash management guidelines and controls
  • Develop and implement communications processes with key constituencies
  • Support public sector leaders in managing transformation and crises
  • Assess processes and design improvement strategies
  • Assist in implementation of operational or financial restructuring 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Master’s degree in Education, Education Policy, Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or other related field is preferred but not required.
  • 5+ years of work experience in education, public administration, and/or consulting or corporate positions with a financial or accounting focus
  • Experience in federal, state and local government and understanding of public sector entity financial management and operational issues
  • Ability to understand complex financial statements and demonstrate strong financial modeling experience
  • Able to identify key operational performance drivers and flexible to support clients with a broad array of issues
  • Experience leading a large public sector organization Communicate effectively in written and verbal form, to all levels of client personnel
  • Ability to demonstrate existing network of education industry contacts with a successful track record of industry leadership and/or business development
  • Able to lead complex client engagement with limited oversight, and supervise consulting colleagues and client employees
  • Strong understanding of the current and emerging trends and challenges impacting education institutions and the ability to support institutions in problem-solving related to these challenges.
  • Willing to travel up to 100% based on client needs

The following are the annual base salary ranges, commensurate with experience: Consultant: $90,000-$115,000; Senior Consultant: $110,000-$135,000; Manager: $135,000-$165,000; Director: $150,000-$205,000; Senior Director: $175,000-$245,000. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.  Please ask your recruiter for details.
