Associate/Senior Associate, Federal Tax

Alvarez & Marsal Tax is looking for an Associate to join our growing Federal Tax practice. Our Federal Tax team specializes in providing corporate tax consulting and compliance services to multinational public and private companies.

One of the areas of focus for this Associate would be to work with a team to design and implement corporate reorganizations and transactions. An ideal candidate would have strong business acumen and critical thinking to assist in finding practical business solutions for our clients.

What will you be doing?

As an Associate/Senior Associate within A&M Tax Federal Tax practice, you will:

  • Assist with preparation of step plans in PowerPoint and in Excel in relation to business reorganizations, legal entity rationalizations, and business transactions.
  • Analyze and process different datasets, documents, and structures, including but not limited to tax returns and elections, financial statements, fixed asset registers and tax depreciation schedules, transaction and restructuring slide decks, technical memoranda, and valuation reports, in order to develop such tax planning approaches, tax calculations and models.
  • Assist with the implementation of business reorganizations, legal entity rationalizations, and business transactions designed by A&M or by other client external advisors.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team to lead preparation and detailed discussion of deliverables and communicate work plan and progress to project team, on a timely and objective manner.
  • Assist with tax compliance needs of select clients, such as tax provision, tax extension and tax return preparation.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of quality tax planning approaches for corporate clients, applying tax technical knowledge to specific client situations, with timely and responsive services and work product that meets and/or exceeds client expectations.
  • Assist with preparation of tax calculations and models to compute cash tax impact of proposed planning.
  • Conduct and review research and analysis of a wide range of tax issues related to federal corporate tax, business transactions, reorganizations, restructuring and tax implications of financing techniques for a variety of entities and their affiliates.
  • Interface with client and external advisor personnel to obtain information and deliver a high-quality work product on time and on budget.
  • Have the opportunity to network with existing and prospective clients and to undertake additional responsibility quickly.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting
  • 1-2+ years of relevant experience in federal taxation and/or corporate tax consulting services
  • CPA or Licensed Attorney (or in the process of pursuing)
  • Intermediate to advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Strong communication, writing and presentation skills and ability to articulate complex information in plain English
  • Strong analytical and research skills and ability to understand and effectively apply tax concepts to client situations
  • Detail-oriented, with strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong business development skills and proactive and positive attitude
  • High motivation to learn and grow
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, time-sensitive environment, on multiple projects at the same time
