Insight Center is a rapidly growing research and benchmarking department at Alvarez & Marsal and it’s mission is to provide our professionals with highly relevant, industry specific, actionable, fact-based insights derived through conducting secondary desk-based research from a range of research tools that we subscribe to. It supports client work and business development projects with an ever-growing toolbox of products, including custom benchmarking and research studies and specialist subscriptions and resources. The team considers research both a science and an art, and as such is committed to developing high-quality, unique and insightful deliverables to support stakeholders.

The Role

We are recruiting a Business Research Analyst into our Munich office to support our German practice and provide research to A&M globally. As an integral part of the team, you will work directly with practitioners to deliver a wide range of secondary desk-based research services which support thought leadership, business development and client work. You will help our existing team members in Germany drive uptake of Insight Centre’s services by European practitioners. The role provides training and course attendance opportunities as part of your professional development.

The Responsibilities
You will fulfill a wide range of varied research requests by interacting directly with A&M stakeholders from all divisions and levels. You will engage in the full life cycle from the scoping to delivering the final output. Research projects may include identifying and obtaining reports from industry, financial, IT and news subscriptions and resources; creating market overviews to track industry trends; assisting in Selling, General & Administrative (SG&A) functional and process benchmarking; and, conducting financial analysis on a range of companies to understand their financial health. This role requires the keen ability to multi-task in order to deliver a range of research requests. In addition, you will:

  • help to manage the research request pipeline through Salesforce.com
  • prioritize, coordinate and manage research requests sent to third-party research partners
  • promote Insight Centre and provide education to the European professionals on how to leverage and engage with us
  • Collaborate with the global team and evaluate new research tools and service offerings
  • increase awareness of local research tools and train end-users on research best practices.

The Requirements

This opportunity is ideal for a self-starter and problem solver that loves variety at work. You will have the opportunity to collaborate with team members in Europe and North America. You will need to be someone who likes to dive in and think creatively to find great solutions to business related research-based questions. you will need a good understanding of company financial metrics and industry research and be comfortable with numbers. Importantly you will be focused on customer service.

  • Fluent German and English speaker; Spanish is desirable
  • Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in a related field (Relevant Information degree preferred)
  • Relevant work experience in a similar role
  • Excellent analytical skills and research experience using a research database such as Factiva, Capital IQ, APQC, Bloomberg amongst others
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of fundamental financial research, financial analysis, and financial markets/trends
  • A solid grounding in secondary research and developing commercial insights
  • The ability to organize and prioritize tasks, and to manage concurrent small projects
  • Secure analytical skills, comfortable working with quantitative data and numerical analysis
  • Ability to communicate complex ideas in a simple manner
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Advanced knowledge of MS Office (Excel)

There may be some travel required throughout A&M’s European offices, particularly London, as well as potentially occasional travel to the US.
