With many commercial sectors, both in the UK and internationally, suffering varying degrees of distress, a number of our business units have a growing requirement for extensive tax support (including debtor and creditor advisory, restructuring and formal insolvency). A strong restructuring tax team with the right expertise is critical to the successful execution of such corporate transactions.
Our extensive hands-on domestic and cross-border transaction experience in these areas helps resolve critical tax considerations in an efficient and practical manner. Our focus on balancing various stakeholders’ concerns and the key commercial drivers, means that we can meet issues head-on and achieve results.
Our Restructuring Tax Services professionals serve as dedicated resource to our colleagues advising stressed and distressed businesses and their lenders, dealing with the many and varied tax consequences in such situations. As a result of A&M’s growth, we are expanding the team rapidly at all levels and are currently looking to recruit a Restructuring Tax Manager into the team.
The ideal candidate will be bright, pragmatic, action focused and hands-on in getting to the solution. The individual does not necessarily need to have specific restructuring or insolvency experience, although it would be an advantage. However, they need to have transaction tax experience, a good understanding of the key principles of corporation tax, and an awareness of the tax implications of financing and refinancing, as well as possessing a genuine interest in this type of work and a desire to progress. Whilst support will be provided by tax specialists in the wider team (e.g. VAT, transfer pricing etc.) you will ideally also have an awareness of the interactions of our work with other areas of tax. The primary responsibilities would be to manage a portfolio of clients and/or projects, where you will be responsible for the day-to-day tax compliance affairs, working and communicating with the senior members of the team. You will assist with dealing with tax return queries and have full responsibility for timely project delivery. You will be expected to be able to identify technical issues arising from your work and assist in resolving the position. This is an opportunity to form a key part of this growing team.
Primary responsibilities:
Performing tax compliance, advisory and due diligence for businesses located in the UK and globally:
Gathering and rapidly assimilating detailed information
Being alive to the tax implications beyond corporation tax and raising such issues with more senior members of the team as well as seeking to resolve them, and liaising accordingly with tax specialists in other areas
Co-ordinating with and project managing global Taxand teams where necessary
Providing advice in relation to the structuring of transactions:
Drafting detailed transaction steps plans
Reacting to fast moving and often changing situations
Incorporating tax structuring advice from other jurisdictions
Providing restructuring colleagues and other stakeholders (including lenders and other advisers) with ad-hoc advice on company reorganisations and restructuring activities
Alongside other members of the team, overseeing the compliance process for UK companies in formal insolvencies
Delegating to and managing the junior members of the team
Assisting the senior team with business development and thought leadership
Other responsibilities:
Providing advice regarding tax technical issues in the UK
Undertaking technical research projects
Involvement in business development and marketing initiatives alongside more senior members of the team
Qualifications:
ACA or CTA qualified with corporate tax compliance and, preferably, advisory experience
Relevant/appropriate tax experience - we can only consider candidates with UK Tax experience for this role
