The A&M European Turnaround & Restructuring team focuses on big ticket company side financial and operational restructuring assignments in addition to CRO/CEO/ CFO appointments and, within the last few years, we have delivered on some of Europe’s largest restructuring cases such as Abengoa, NMC, Toys R’ Us, Nyrstar, Seadrill, Intertoys, Debenhams and Isolux.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join Alvarez & Marsal’s established Turnaround & Restructuring team as a Director. We work with multi-national companies, high profile investment banks and Global and European private equity houses and their portfolio companies. 

The successful candidate should;

  • Have extensive experience in Company side Restructuring whether as a consultant or as an employee whose company has experienced a restructuring
  • Be adept at building 13-week cash flow forecasts
  • Have a firm understanding of liquidity management, including the impact of risk
  • Possess a strong financial skill set including an understanding of P&L and asset efficiency (working capital) performance improvement processes
  • Have a very strong financial modelling skill set including assessing long-term company viability, as well as understanding and applying valuation methods in a restructuring context
  • Knowledge of Insolvency regimes and Union / Redundancy negotiations is useful

A successful Restructuring Director will be experienced in addressing businesses critical issues at speed and will reflect the operational distinctiveness that is A&M; a business savvy, outcome focused business entrepreneur who is addicted to making an impact, determined to make a difference and not afraid to challenge the status-quo.

  • Cash & liquidity management and forecasting
  • Cross-border wind-downs
  • Preparation and validation of business plans for company management teams
  • Independent business reviews
  • Short term cash flow forecasting frameworks
  • Stakeholder reporting on PMO cost saving initiatives

In addition, the successful candidate will also possess excellent negotiating skills, ideally gained in an operational restructuring environment, whether in the context of negotiating with banks, closure of an entity/divestment of assets, commercial / supplier agreements, or dealing with management teams or trade unions. The ability to engage with ambitious deadlines under possible ambiguity is key, whilst mobilizing oneself and the team towards productive outcomes.

Ideally, a Director will be able to successfully identify client needs and win client trust. Ultimately, the successful appointee will be recognized by the client as the lead for value contributed on engagements and therefore build his/her own credible network of contacts and referral sources with clients, professionals and institutions.

The ideal applicant will possess:

  • Experience in Turnaround Management, including business plan development, financial projections development & review, designing and implementing cash conservation guidelines and controls
  • Hands on experienced of working with operational and finance teams within large, distressed organisations (the blend of industry and professional services experience is important for success in this role)
  • Experience gained with the Corporate Recovery / Restructuring practice of a ‘Big 4’ firms, a leading Advisory firm dealing with turnaround projects or as an employee of a company that has been through a restructuring
  • The ability to conduct an initial rapid diagnostic into the company's immediate and future cash needs, product profitability, cost base, major operational issues, market position and options for restructuring    
  • Experience in building 13 week cash flows, integrated financial models, business plan modelling and strong Excel/PowerPoint skills
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering complex projects and exceptional stakeholder management
  • A strong desire to build on their existing skill set and develop knowledge of all restructuring offerings
  • ACA / ACCA qualification is preferable with a robust understanding of financial and analytical accounting
  • Fluency in or native English is essential and other European languages are highly desirable
