A&M's Financial Services Industry (FSI) practice is a newly formed business unit at Alvarez & Marsal.  FSI helps create sustainable value for our clients through our operational heritage and in-depth knowledge of the financial services industry. We are looking for professionals who have a strong understanding of the financial services industry, including specific expertise in payments, retail banking, consumer finance across product, marketing, loyalty, payments, and pricing.


As a Senior Director, you will be supporting practice development, business development cycles and leading engagement teams. Key Responsibilities Include:

  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of innovative consumer lending strategies
  • Conducting detailed industry research and analysis
  • Engaging with and leading client teams to develop industry-focused solutions
  • Applying innovative approaches to solve complex problems
  • Providing guidance to manage a client through crisis and/or quick solutions and time frames
  • Developing growth strategies that include core business expansion, adjacencies, and white space opportunities
  • Engaging in c-suite and board-level conversations regarding the challenges facing clients and strategic initiatives for solving them
  • Utilizing your experience and expertise to effectively function in interim roles (e.g., CEO, CFO, COO, other)
  • Helping clients understand their competitive advantages and product/service line profitability.
  • Developing pricing and financing strategies based on an understanding of customer value drivers, cost structures, market dynamics and product lifecycle effects.
  • Evaluating business and operating models for a growing product line
  • Supporting clients with M&A activities by performing due diligence, post-merger integration
  • Partnering with private equity clients to evaluate potential investments and support current portfolio companies
  • Turnarounds of payments, retail banking, and consumer finance companies, on behalf of PE or Public Market owners
  • Evaluating strategies with the goal of maximizing the output of viable investment portfolios
  • Effectively managing client project plans and teams including meeting deadlines and managing on-time deliverables
  • Knowledge of engagement economics and overall product delivery, budgeting, and timely billing & collections including managing the implementation risk and profitability
  • Building relationships with clients and seeking opportunities to expand the scope of business while generating leads
  • Managing and mentoring junior staff including training and development


  • High energy and self-motivated individuals with a passion for financial services and solving complex issues
  • A leader, entrepreneur and an individual who is eager to lead clients while helping to build the growing Payments, Retail Banking, and Consumer Finance practice at A&M
  • A minimum of ten (10) years of prior work experience in financial consulting or twelve (12) years in the financial services industry such as private equity, retail banking, consumer finance, FinTech, or other industry supporting organizations
  • BA/BS degree and/or MBA/MS or other related fields
  • An understanding of finance including the ability to review and understand financial statements and disclosures
  • Deep industry expertise and specialization in one or more areas across the Payments, Retail Banking, and Consumer Finance sectors such as marketing, payment, lending, issuing, processor or network systems, digital marketing, product, CX, loyalty, or pricing
  • Working knowledge of the financial services industry dynamics and technologies
  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to communicate with and present information to all levels of client personnel
  • The ability to logically structure a narrative and develop accompanying presentations (within PowerPoint)
  • Solid project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to wrangle data and conduct analysis and synthesize information
  • Strong Microsoft Excel and modeling skills including the ability to build and oversee the build of models such as financial and operational models.
  • Willingness and ability to travel as required

The following are the annual base salary ranges, commensurate with experience: Director: $150,000-$205,000; Senior Director: $175,000-$245,000. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.  Please ask your recruiter for details.
