We currently have a career opportunity for a Senior Associate in our Compensation & Benefits Tax practice.  Senior Associates work with a team of professionals to advise companies of all sizes on qualified retirement plan issues, executive and broad-based compensation issues, as well as various other compensation and benefits matters.  This position will focus on completing complex compensation and benefits projects, participating in engagements requiring tax and/or compensation and benefit analysis/modeling for a variety of entities, providing tax and business advice in regard to complex transactions, and tax research and writing.  With this position, you will further your analytical and communication skills while adding value for our clients by helping solve their complex problems.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Review executive compensation plans and agreements to ensure compliance with the various Internal Revenue Code and SEC requirements
  • Benchmark compensation and develop reports to support the compensation recommendations
  • Design annual long-term incentive awards
  • Conduct complex nondiscrimination testing for qualified retirement plans, including issues related to complex controlled groups with multiple qualified plans
  • Assist in the identification of compliance issues in qualified retirement plans, calculate corrections and draft submissions for the IRS and DOL correction programs
  • Provide consulting expertise to clients on matters such as plan design, merger and acquisition activity, fiduciary responsibility, and operational compliance
  • Benchmark, design, and implement bankruptcy compensation programs, including Key Employee Incentive Programs (“KEIPs”), Key Employee Retention Programs (“KERPs”), Management Incentive Plans (“MIPs”), severance programs, etc.
  • Work on mergers and acquisitions, including performing complex tax and HR calculations for target companies and their executives.
  • Draft technical memorandums and letters related to compensation & benefits issues
  • Assist with marketing initiatives by writing articles, preparing pitch decks, researching targets, and developing presentations
  • Attend client calls to understand critical areas of importance and apply tax technical knowledge to specific client situations
  • Create deliverables that are concise, complete and address the elements deemed critical by the client
  • Mentor Associates when they are supporting the same projects by delegating appropriate tasks, ensuring they complete tasks efficiently and sharing best practices
  • Build client relationships and demonstrate a working knowledge of client businesses; with opportunity to assume additional responsibility quickly
  • Identify opportunities to provide additional services to existing clients by using working knowledge of client businesses
  • Build internal relationships with other members of the Federal Tax team and the greater A&M firm

  • Assist with business development, including add-on work by creating business development resources and proposal materials

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Juris Doctor, Masters in Tax, licensed CPA, or specialty compensation and benefits certification preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in the compensation & benefits field
  • Solid PC skills, including Microsoft Windows and Office applications, especially Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Strong analytical skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to articulate complex information clearly and concisely
  • Excellent research, writing, and analytical skills
  • Experience with all Microsoft Office products (with an emphasis on Excel)
  • Ability to simultaneously work on several projects and effectively manage deadlines
  • High motivation to learn and grow
  • Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills

Compensation Statement

The annual base salary range is $85,000 - $95,000, commensurate with experience. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.  Please ask your recruiter for details. 

Benefit Summary

Full-time Positions and Part-time Positions Over 30 hours

Regular employees working 30 or more hours per week are also entitled to participate in Alvarez & Marsal Holdings’ fringe benefits consisting of healthcare plans, flexible spending and savings accounts, life, AD&D, and disability coverages at rates determined from time to time as well as a 401(k) retirement plan.
