Our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice assists clients in assessing state and local tax burdens by recommending solutions that support their overall business objectives and providing support so that their filing positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states' applicable tax laws and rules. Due to our tremendous growth we're seeking a Senior Director to join our team.

What Will You Be Doing?

As a Senior Director within SALT, you will:

  • Establish long term consultative relationships with clients by providing your expertise on tax planning and compliance process for multi-state corporate and pass-through entities

  • Lead a team to deliver state and local tax advisory services, including refund reviews, nexus studies, taxability matrices, voluntary disclosures, tax minimization studies for income/franchise and sales and use tax purposes. Other areas may include gross receipts taxes, employment taxes, credits and incentives, and property taxes

  • Build consultative relationships with clients by understanding their business, their unique circumstances, offering proactive support, and timely execution of projects

  • Build relationships across Tax and the rest of A&M. Develop a deep understanding of the areas of expertise across the firm in order to present clients with opportunities for additional support

  • Provide supportive leadership by providing development and career guidance through mentoring and performance feedback to your team. Drive your team to stay up to date on tax law changes and apply the most current and innovative tax practices in order to create and sustain a respected reputation in the market

  • Build, manage, direct and monitor multiple client engagements teams while maintaining active communication with clients in an effort to manage expectations and help ensure client satisfaction

  • Manage risk, staffing and financial performance for multiple engagements at once including billing, collections, profitability and project budgets

  • Champion diversity, equity and inclusion across all aspects of the practice

  • Actively pursue business development opportunities and prioritize where and how to source new relationships

  • Regularly meet with contacts to discuss broad business issues and provide insight regarding how Tax and A&M can help address their critical business issues

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting

  • 8 + years of experience in state and local tax with demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical issues

  • 4+ years of experience managing teams and engagements

  • Licensed CPA or Licensed Attorney

  • Passion for mentoring, coaching, and developing teams

  • Prior proven experience leading others while managing risk, staffing and financial performance for multiple engagements at once including billing, collections, and project budgets

  • Proven experience working as a trusted advisor to clients with a demonstrated ability to help clients understand and interpret analysis, deliverables, and recommendations

  • Excellent verbal and written skills, with the ability to establish credibility and influence clients

  • Self-motivated with a high degree of intellectual curiosity. Strong desire to learn and grow. Actively identifies trends and new ideas for enhancing solutions and approaches, particularly with technology

  • Demonstrate the ability to run large complex engagements while overseeing multiple teams and ensuring excellence

Compensation Statement

The annual base salary is a range from $175,000 - $200,000. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance. Please ask your recruiter for details.
