The ETL Developer role will assist in the cloud migration, design, implementation and ongoing support of our current database and warehouse environment. As we look to the future of cloud data architecture at A&M, this role will be assisting in the exciting new challenges that come with a brand-new build in the Azure cloud data stack. While engaging with the design teams both internally and with Microsoft on the future, this role will also help maintain and build upon our current gen solution which includes but is not limited to ETL development and optimization, design of new subject areas, management of internal data marts and document data dictionaries. The candidate will interface with both IT members and business users from the operations and BI teams to help gather requirements and design solutions based off them. Once migration is completed the candidate will be partly responsible for maintenance and operations of the new environments. You will participate in the creation of technical specs and contribute to project planning activities as needed. This role may provide supplemental support to the BI team if desired for career advancement or knowledge learning experiences. The developer must work as part of a larger team to understand and implement specifications, communicate technical issues, and actively participate in functional, technical and code reviews. 



  • Experience with Cloud and On Prem warehousing technologies. 

  • Knowledge of data structures, data management practices, system interaction patterns and interfaces. 

  • Architectural modeling skills and the ability to consider technical decisions as part of a multi-dimensional problem. 

  • Heavy knowledge and experience with relational database technologies. 

  • Knowledge of and experience with data modeling tools. 

  • Ability to research and develop comprehensive architectural solutions across multiple IT disciplines. 

  • Strong knowledge of SDLC processes and procedures. 

  • Able to execute performance tuning at the SQL and ETL level. 

  • Introduce and implement technical best in class practices with deliveries. 

  • Conduct code reviews and design reviews; validate technical approaches of other team members. 

  • Strong development experience in the design and implementation of SQL Server, SSIS, Azure Data Stack, PowerBI and Python\PowerShell. Knowledge and experience of Tableau and other BI tools a plus. 

  • Strong working experience performing complex queries using a variety of SQL based tools and technique. 

  • Experience in working on multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines. 

  • Review incoming requests and provide basic analysis of possible solutions. 


  • Contribute to writing of technical specifications. 

  • Document data models and hierarchies. 

  • Create data dictionaries as new areas are developed or existing ones are enhanced. 

Project Planning: 

  • Provide level-of-effort estimates for projects and maintenance tasks across functional teams. 

  • Refine technical estimates based on approved functional and technical specification. 

Quality Assurance: 

  • Work with QA and development teams to ensure that work products meet desired objectives. 

  • Review and provide test case feedback. 



  • Collaborate with delivery team regarding maintenance and projects 

  • Assist with maintenance and project releases 

  • Provide production support (on-call) 

  • Collaborate with application support team for application code reviews 

  • Collaborate with infrastructure on site\cloud performance issues 

  • Understand and integrate third party applications as needed 



  • Candidate must be able to develop efficient, maintainable code under the standards set forth by the technology team 

  • Proficiency in technical and process problem solving, as well as root analysis 

  • Candidate must also manage timely, effective development tasks, through collaboration with technical lead and project liaison, and effectively communicating development status as requested and required 

  • Candidate must have demonstrated ability to create technical design and fully understand software development lifecycle (SDLC) 

  • Ability to communicate technical solutions to non-technical audience a plus

  • Must be able to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of personnel, both in verbal and written modes; able to pay close attention to detail and understand written and verbal instructions 

  • Must be able to organize and schedule work effectively 

  • Must be able to work well under time constraints 

  • Must be able to handle multiple tasks with changing priorities, communicating changes in scope and schedule to all parties concerned 

  • Must be able to work independently and with small to medium sized teams 

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including hours beyond the normal schedule when necessary 

  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality 



  • BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field
