Associate, Sales and Use Tax
Alvarez and Marsal Tax, LLC, is seeking to expand our Sales and Use Tax practice with the addition of an Associate. The Sales and Use practice assists clients in assessing state and local tax burdens by recommending solutions that support their overall business objectives and provide support so that their filing positions are consistent with good business practices and with the states' applicable tax laws and rules.

What will you be doing?

As an Associate for the Sales and Use Tax practice, you will

  • Assist, prepare, and maintain sales and use tax documentation for audits
  • Perform multi-state state and local sales and use tax research
  • Assist with state and local sales and use tax due diligence analysis for business acquisitions or divestitures
  • Prepare detailed Sales & Use tax technical research memorandums for internal sources and clients
  • Maintain contemporaneous documentation re: product taxability determinations
  • Monitor and analyze Accounts Payable systems and miscellaneous entries to determine the taxability and monthly use tax accrual requirements
  • Draft pertinent technical letters to appropriate state officials on tax interpretation
  • Work with ERP systems such as SAP and automated sales tax determination packages (Vertex or OneSource tax software) to ensure proper taxation of sales and purchases
  • Perform audit defense for Sales & Use
  • Provide sales and use tax training of internal customers in the form of memos, classes etc. (plants and accounting personnel)
  • Perform any tasks necessary to ensure we accomplish our goals of increased compliance to tax laws and lower tax audit liabilities
  • Prepare data files for sales & use tax and any other statutory filings
  • Respond to notices from state and local jurisdictions as needed
  • Utilizing process control (how to measure, track, analyze and initiate improvement)
  • Develop recommendations based on audit results to minimize exposure
  • Work on research projects to update the company's sales and use tax matrices
  • Work on special projects related to incentives for sales and use tax
  • Build relationships with client personnel, to assist with sales and use tax issues
  • Participate in the development of staff through mentoring

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Accounting or Finance is preferred
  • Sales and Use Tax experience is preferred
  • Experience with various research software RIA, CCH and other software (Vertex and OneSource is a plus)
  • Ability to identify issues and exposures for audits and notices
  • We are looking for an individual who is excited about working in a positive, proactive working
  • Sales tax consulting experience is desired
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word required; knowledge of Vertex and OneSource software is a plus
  • Must have a proactive can-do attitude with strong analytical, organizational, technical and technological skills
  • Excellent communication abilities with intellectual curiosity
  • Willing to work in a hybrid working environment

Salary

The annual base salary is $75,000, dependent on several variables including but not limited to education, experience, skills, and geography. In addition, A&M offers a discretionary bonus program which is based on a number of factors, including individual and firm performance.  Please ask your recruiter for details.
