Team Profile:

Alvarez & Marsal’s Business Transformation Services (BTS) collaborates with Private Equity and Corporate clients to provide transaction support, drive operational improvements, and facilitate mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The practice has a strong sector focus on Banking, Insurance, and Non-Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs), offering services such as Strategic Planning, Entry Strategy, Business Transformation, Process Improvement, Data driven decision making, Commercial and Operational Due Diligence, as well as Revenue Enhancement Solutions.

Globally, A&M’s Financial Services Advisory practice has supported numerous marquee clients across various sub-segments, including banking, insurance, payments, wealth management, and fintech. In India, the Financial Services team has successfully executed over 50 engagements in the past 4–5 years across multiple geographies, partnering with leading Indian and multinational financial institutions and Private Equity investors. The firm has ambitious plans to further grow the Financial Services Business Transformation – Performance Improvement practice over the next few years.

Job Roles & Responsibilities:

Problem Solving

  • Lead the delivery teams working on challenging engagements for some of the largest global and Indian Private Banking, Insurance and corporate clients
  • Guide and mentor team to systematically break down the problem into relevant focus areas
  • Provide insights by understanding the clients’ businesses, its industry and value derivers
  • Assimilate so-what’s of analyses to develop the “big-picture”Prepare client ready delivery documents – including market models, financial models, project reports, etc.

Project Management:

  • Maintain acceptable pace of work, balance project priorities with respect to personal commitments and delivers high quality work
  • Take ownership and accountability of project delivery and team capability development
  • Manage project risks effectively and ensure timely resolution

Client Management:

  • Engage client as a partner in a team effort Discuss, with clients, issues beyond immediate scope of project and build lasting relationships
  • Set clear and unambiguous expectations on deliverables
  • Be the ‘go-to’ person for client and build a relationship of trust and advice

Team Building

  • Own knowledge management of the project and work with team to update creds/decks/knowledge nuggets
  • Value and leverage different experiences and backgrounds across the firm
  • Mentor and coach project team proactively and transmit knowledge and experience to develop people capability  

Building Financial Services Practice and Business Development:

  • Actively participate in business development – build network, formulate proposals / pitches (along with the MD / SD), own solution building, eventually create opportunities in areas of strength (this could be a journey in y2/3 but a good plus is already present)
  • Manage 1-2 corporate account – can be existing relationship or the ones provided at A&M

Communication

  • Lead key leadership meetings by clearly setting the agenda and summarizing next steps
  • Narration and story building capability to communicate findings to clients in effective manner
  • Engage audience by projecting self-assurance and adapting style when needed
  • Communicates persuasively when needed and influence others into action

Basic Qualifications:

  • Chartered Accountant or MBA (preferred IIM / IIT / NIT)

Experience:

Required:

  • Minimum 9+ years of strategy consulting experience post MBA with top consulting organizations; Or minimum 10+ years of experience across strategy consulting and Financial Services industry (Banking/ NBFC/ Insurance)
  • Experience in being part of Performance Improvement engagements for global large organizations especially private banking/insurance/NBFCs
  • Proven aptitude and enthusiasm for conducting detailed financial modeling, strategic analyses

Preferred:

  • Current network of contacts in the marketplace and excellent relationship building skills, with the ability to utilize relationships to uncover and develop opportunities
